One of the things I like about Bottle is that all of the middleware hooks are interchangeable, so you can swap out anything and change how your site behaves, but there is also one standard hook that handles the connection to the database. This is sometimes called "negotiated handler". There's no need for separate library imports either because Bottle comes with one built-in for easy integration.
